Libertas – Dubrovnik City Bus

Libertas Dubrovnik City Bus, a public company owned by the city, operates the bus service. There are in fact 13 different bus lines that connect all parts of Dubrovnik, with most lines converging in the Old Town for easy access. They keep their fleet modern, using mostly low-floor MAN, ISUZU, and IVECO City buses. These buses are comfortable for everyone, with air conditioning, easy entry, and of course, wheelchair platforms.

However, there are only a limited number of seats and standing spaces on each bus. During peak season, especially on popular routes, the buses can get crowded. But the good news is that most journeys in Dubrovnik are quite short, usually under 15 minutes. So, even if you find yourself standing on a warm summer day, you won’t be stuck for long!

Hopping on a Bus in Dubrovnik: What to Know

Getting on a Dubrovnik bus is a little different than some other cities. Here’s a quick guide to make it easy!

Firstly, you can only get on the bus from the front door. It’s a good practice to exit through the other doors, especially to keep things flowing smoothly. As you enter, you’ll pass right by the driver. This is where you’ll need to show your ticket or buy one if you don’t have one already.

No tickets? No problem! Just make sure you have some change (coins) handy. Tickets bought directly on the bus cost €1.99 each. Important note: You can’t use credit or debit cards to buy tickets on the bus itself. However, you can buy tickets in advance at Dubrovnik bus stations or Tisak newspaper stands using your card!

Important update March 2024: Libertas Dubrovnik buses are continuing with the introduction of card payments on their lines. In the coming period, credit-debit card payment will gradually be in fact implemented in all their vehicles in Dubrovnik city and suburban transport.

When you have your ticket, look for the ticket machine next to the driver. The key here is to insert your ticket with the picture facing you and the little arrow pointing down. Do this, and your ticket will be validated on the first try!

Dubrovnik Buses Zones

Dubrovnik bus tickets have different prices depending on where you’re traveling. There are two zones: Zone 1 covers areas closer to the Old Town, and Zone 2 covers areas further away.

Here’s a quick breakdown to help you figure out your ticket price:

Zone 1:

  • This zone includes the Old Town itself, as well as popular areas like Ploče, Pile, Lapad, Montovjerna, Gruž, Komolac, Mokošnica, and Šipan Island.

Zone 2:

  • If you’re heading to neighborhoods a bit further out, you’ll be in Zone 2. This includes places like Osojnik, Ljubač, Gromača, Kliševo, Trsteno, Riđica, Mrčevo, Mravinjac, Dubravica, Brsečine, Orašac and Zaton.

Dubrovnik Bus Tickets

Where to buy bus tickets in Dubrovnik?

There are many ways to buy a bus ticket in Dubrovnik, so no need to stress! Here’s a quick rundown of your options:

  • Newspaper Kiosks: Keep an eye out for these kiosks around the city – you can in fact buy Dubrovnik bus tickets there.
  • Libertas Stalls: Look for official Libertas stalls or Points of Sale at major bus stops. These are your best bets for buying tickets on the go.
  • Travel Agencies & Hotels: Some travel agencies and hotel receptions might also sell bus tickets, so it’s worth asking.
  • On the Bus: In a pinch, you can buy a bus ticket directly from the driver too.
  • Bonus! Starting from March 2024, Dubrovnik bus plans to introduce credit card and debit card payments on all their buses, making things even easier.

Here are some of the locations where you’ll find official Libertas stalls (handy if you want to buy your bus ticket in advance):

  • Pile bus stop
  • Lapad bus stop
  • Mokošica bus stop
  • Srđ – Dubrovnik Cable Car bus stop
  • Port – Gruž bus stop
  • Grawe bus stop

Dubrovnik Buses Ticket Options

  • 1. In-bus tickets
  • 2. One hour bus Tickets (ex – single “S” bus tickets)
  • 3. Two-ride bus ticket
  • 4. Daily bus ticket
  • 5. Three-day bus ticket

1. Buying Tickets on The Bus

Imagine this: you’re strolling back to your hotel in Dubrovnik, feeling a little weary. Suddenly, the thought of a cool bus ride strikes you! You rush to the bus stop and hop on – only to realize you had in fact forgotten your ticket!

In Dubrovnik you can buy bus tickets directly from the driver. Here’s the catch:

  • Cijena: It’s a bit more expensive than buying a ticket beforehand – €1.99 to be exact.
  • Validity: This ticket is only good for the single ride you’re taking. So, it doesn’t work like the 1-hour ticket with its one-hour window.
  • Payment: The bus driver only accepts cash, and only in Euros. This has already started to change so hopefully within Summer of 2024 you’ll be able to buy tickets with your credit-debit card directly on Dubrovnik bus. In the meantime, make sure you have some change handy.

Savjet: While buying on the bus is an option, it’s always a good idea to grab a ticket in advance from a kiosk if you can. It’s cheaper and avoids any last-minute scrambling for cash!

2. One Hour Dubrovnik Bus Tickets (ex-Single “S”)

The One-hour bus ticket, also used to be called an “S” ticket, is your best friend for short trips around Dubrovnik. Here’s the lowdown:

  • Where to buy: Buy these tickets at newspaper kiosks or other sales points scattered around the city.
  • Cijena: Each ticket costs €1.73.
  • How long is it valid? This is the cool part – a ticket is good for one hour (or 59 minutes to be precise) from the first time you use it.
  • Unlimited rides: Within that hour, you can take as many bus lines as you want, in any direction!

Bonus: Tickets bought at kiosks need to be validated (activated) by stamping them on the machine next to the driver when you enter the bus. This keeps things cheap and avoids long queues. Additionally, with a one-hour ticket, you can switch between different Dubrovnik bus lines within that hour, giving you flexibility on your journey.

Savjet: Gearing up for a walk along the magnificent Dubrovnik City Walls in Old Town, but realized you left your hat and sunglasses back at your hotel in Lapad? No sweat! With your one-hour ticket, you can hop on a bus back to Lapad, grab your forgotten essentials, and catch another bus straight back to Old Town. If you manage to catch that second bus within 59 minutes of using your first ticket, you’re good to go!

3. Two-ride Dubrovnik Buses Tickets

Looking for a ticket that lets you explore a bit more? The two-ride bus ticket might be perfect for you! Just like the name suggests, this ticket gives you two separate bus rides in Dubrovnik. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Where to buy: Buy these tickets at newspaper kiosks or other sales points scattered around the city.
  • Cijena: €3.19 – that’s actually 80-euro cents cheaper than buying two single tickets!
  • Validity: This is where it differs from the single ticket. Each ride with a two-ride ticket is only valid for 30 minutes after you first use it. So, make sure you plan your two rides within that timeframe.

In simpler words: Imagine you want to have a cup of coffee in the Old Town and then head to Lapad for some beach time. A two-ride ticket lets you do both! Just remember, you need to take your second bus ride within 30 minutes of using the ticket for the first time.

4. Daily Dubrovnik Bus Ticket (Pass)

Planning a jam-packed day of exploring Dubrovnik? The daily bus pass is your best friend! Here’s how it works:

  • Where to Buy: You can buy a daily bus pass only at Libertas Dubrovnik bus stalls or points of sale (Pile, Lapad, Mokošica, Srđ – Dubrovnik Cable Car, Port – Gruž – Grawe).
  • Cijena: The cost is €5.31, a great deal if you plan on riding the buses a lot throughout the day.
  • Benefits: This is the magic part – a daily bus pass gives you unlimited bus rides for 24 sata after you first use it! Stamp your ticket when you get on the first bus, and you’re good to go for a full day of exploring.

Flexibility is Key: Need to zip between the Old Town, Pile Gate, and Lapad Bay all in one day? No problem! The daily pass lets you hop on and off buses as much as you want within that 24-hour window. Perfect for a day packed with sightseeing adventures!

5. Three-Day Bus Pass

Just like the daily pass, but for longer: This pass works similarly to the daily pass, but it lasts much longer! With a three-day bus pass, you get unlimited bus rides for a whopping 72 sata (that’s three whole days) after you first use it.

  • Where to Buy: You can buy a three-day bus pass only at Libertas Dubrovnik bus stalls or points of sale (Pile, Lapad, Mokošica, Srđ – Dubrovnik Cable Car, Port – Gruž – Grawe.
  • Activation: The card becomes active the moment you stamp it when you board the first bus. Easy peasy!
  • Cijena: For €11.95, you can hop on and off buses as much as you want for three days. This is a great way to save money compared to buying single tickets for every ride, especially if you plan on doing a lot of exploring.

Imagine this: You’re in Dubrovnik for a few days and want to visit all the must-see spots. The three-day bus pass lets you explore the Old Town, wander through museums, and in addition relax on beaches at Lapad Bay – all with unlimited bus rides for three whole days! This gives you the freedom to roam around the city at your own pace without worrying about buying tickets every time.

Free Rides for Little Adventurers!

Great news for families visiting Dubrovnik! Little ones (aged 6 and under) can in fact ride the Dubrovnik city bus for free. Here’s the catch:

  • Free with an Adult: Children under 6 get free rides, but they need to be with an adult who has a valid ticket. Think of it like a team effort – one ticket covers both the grown-up and the little explorer!

Consider Dubrovnik Pass
